Client access password dialog - go away!
Question:
Is there any possibility to avoid the user-id/password-prompt when starting
up a tcp/ip connection with CA/400 ?
Thank you for any help
Answer(s):
There are several settings to check. By default, Windows 95/98 password caching is on in Client Access, so if you entered a profile when you created your connection, that's all you should have to do. It won't work if you start the connection from the "AS/400 Connections" icon. No matter what your pw cache settings are, it always asks for the password when you start from here. To skip that program, make a shortcut to the CA function that you're trying to start (i.e. the .ws file for emulator sessions, etc.). When you start that program, you'll be logged on to the AS/400 automatically if you're not already.
It also won't work from NT. NT does not support password caching.
On the IBM Client Access website you'll find documentation about an API
that allows you to logon unattended. By writing a small program (which you
can put in the StartUp group) using this API, you'll be able to make the
initial router connection without asking anything at all to the user.
There's even a sample program up there.
Under NT it's not possible due to NT not supporting pw cache. But under W95 no
problem, I use it every days.
I'am not at the office today but what I remember is :
- At installation time if you give the name and pasword for connection, they are stored and automatically use every time you boot.
- After installation in the control panel of W95 in CA/400 icon or in
the password icon , you got the possibility to change that.
You can setup it up via CONTROL PANEL - PASSWORDS. They are more settings
within START - PROGRAMS - CLIENT ACCESS - CLIENT ACCESS PROPERTIES. Give it
a try.
