All AS/400 Tip Categories / Client Access / Single Signon Possible?

Question:

Hi everybody, I only have one simple question: Can someone tell me if there is a script or a package for doing only one signon on a PC and then automaticly log on to a as/400 and a MS NT 4.0 server.

Answer(s):

I use CA/400 and win95 on a desktop and use NT for file service and keep my passwords in synch using the password command under win95. After CA is installed, check the box to change the AS/400 passwords too. We use TCP to connect to eveything.

I just received the following from News/400 "IBM ANNOUNCES MULTIPLATFORM SINGLE SIGN-ON SOLUTION IBM announced Global Sign-On for Multiplatforms 1.5 this week, including new support for OS/400 applications. The product eliminates multiple passwords and provides a secure, single sign- on to various files, applications, printers, or database servers throughout the enterprise. The new version also adds support for Tivoli's TME 10 and its User Administration interface, Lotus Notes, PeopleSoft, Windows NT Server, and Sun Solaris and client support for Windows 95. IBM says that in the near future, you can expect to see support added for token-card/smart-card integration, biometric devices, access to Web-based resources, lightweight Java clients, and LDAP directories. (Earlier versions already supported OS/2 clients and servers, Windows NT 4.0 client workstations, mainframe systems, Novell NetWare, DB2/6000, Informix, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and Sybase.) Global Sign-On 1.5 will ship January 30 at $99 per user and $1,999 per server. For more information, see http://www.networking.ibm.com/gso/gsohome.html ."

We have NT on the workstations, Novell 4.11 on the server, and 3.7 on the /400. A product from Novell allows us to keep the Novell and /400 passwords in synch and a feature in NT allows us to keep the NT and Novell passwords in synch. By using tn5250 (so no router), we are able to have the user enter a userid and password only once (at the NT screen) and maintain them only one place (the /400) and still get reasonable security.
