Hiding AS/400 In Network Neighborhood
Question:
How do you keep people from accessing the AS400 icon in network
neighborhood? After I installed CA on my computer an icon showed up in
network neighorhood and when I access it it shows about 20 different
different directories including QSYS.LIB. We don't want every user that we
install CA on their PC to have Access to these different directories.
Answer(s):
Try out TweakUI from Microsofts POWERTOYS for Win 9x/NT and
hide the NN Icon completly from normal users sight (seems
the only way through TweakUI) or if you like it more
professional and complicated go through system policies with
the administrators toolkit (for both Win9x and NT) where
you can switch on or off things your users are allowed to
see.
Two steps can be implemented to restrict Network Neighborhood information
from displaying: 1) Edtautl QPWFSERVER to *public *exclude 2) Attach an
exit program to QIBM_QPWFS_FILE_SERV to process who and what is seen.
Yes, they can *browse* through the directories, but they can't
*access* the files in them (if they're not allowed to). So if
you don't have any secret directory or file names it's ok.
Just change *PUBLIC to *EXCLUDE in the QPWFSERVER authority list.
